A beloved holiday musical tradition will continue at Rutgers University this year, even if most of the singers cannot be together in person.
The Rutgers Glee Club will still perform its “Christmas in Carol and Song” concert virtually.
“We want to keep the tradition alive as much as possible, and that’s what’s important,” says club president Ryan Leibowitz.
The concert is usually performed inside the Kirkpatrick Chapel on campus. But the COVID-19 pandemic is preventing in-person shows. So, singers with the glee club and the Kirkpatrick Choir recorded the full concert at home. The performances were edited and will be streamed online.
“We didn’t want to lose that tradition just because of COVID. We’re better than that. So, we decided to get together and create something very, very special,” says Patrick Gardner, director of choral activities.
