Route 1 in Linden is open in both directions after a tanker crash dumped 8,000 gallons of fuel onto the roadway, causing big problems for people in the area.

The accident happened Wednesday around 8:30 a.m., near South Stiles Street, closing the road through 1:30 a.m. this morning.

According to officials, the truck driver was attempting to make a left turn from Stiles Street on to Route 1 when the truck tipped over.

He escaped with only minor injuries. 

Officials moved sand to absorb the fuel and ordered evacuations.

Their main concern was gasoline vapor in the air being ignited.

The Crown Inn was evacuated, and Linden Fire Department personnel went door-to-door to measure air quality levels, determining if additional evacuations were necessary.

Some of the gasoline even flowed into a local creek that makes its way to other waters that flow into the ocean.
