Bridgeport Public Schools are getting a boost for their music programs.

Robert "Kool" Bell – cofounder of the band Kool & The Gang – was in Bridgeport Thursday to announce a partnership between the Kool Kids Foundation and the school district.

The nonprofit provides musical instruments to students with the goal of having a positive impact on children.

“It's about instruments, it's about reading music, it's about communicating with people. So, not just instruments. We want to do whatever we can do to help the kids as it relates to the Kool Kids Foundation,” said Bel.

Bridgeport Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Carmela Levy-David says the foundation will help connect students with instruments, access to copyrighted music and technology.

"We are revitalizing music programs in Bridgeport public schools and we want to ensure that we can do that in a way that is sustainable, in a way that all students have access  to exploring all of their different creativities,” said Levy-David.

Meanwhile, Kool & The Gang will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this October.
