An East Rockaway man pleaded not guilty today to charges that he scammed two elderly twins out of thousands of dollars.

Police say Robert Cohan, 26, is an unlicensed contractor who was hired by 89-year-old twin brothers to repair their Seaford driveway. They allegedly gave Cohan $14,000 to start the project.

When the brothers decided to cancel the project, Cohan told them that, in order to get a refund, they would have to pay extensive restocking and processing fees. According to prosecutors, the twins wound up paying Cohan $200,000.

Cohan was arraigned on a slew of charges, including grand larceny, scheme to defraud and not having the required contractor's license.

Edward Jenks, Cohan's attorney, says his client is completely innocent, and that he'd like to see the records of payments. Cohan has no prior criminal record.

He is due back in court on June 4.
