Police are investigating a daring jewelry heist in Jersey City Thursday involving a group of men and women.
The owner of the Taj Diamond says 11 women and three men came into the store about 12:10 p.m. The men distracted the employees at the front of the store while the women are seen on tape forming a wall at the back of the store. One woman is seen crawling under a counter and to the back office where she put locked boxes of rare jewels under her clothing and crawled back on the other side of the counter. Employees say two of the suspects purchased $200 worth of jewelry before making their getaway in a blue minivan. Salespeople noticed the $300,000 theft 30 minutes after the suspects left.
The owner says his insurance company notified him that the same group may have struck earlier this week at stores in New Jersey and Brooklyn.
