Riverhead students on Monday got to take their history lessons outside at Pulaski Street Intermediate School.
The school is now at the location of a historic fairground from more than a century ago, where the students showcase agricultural advancements of the time. The site stretches about 20 acres and had once hosted famous visitors like Teddy Roosevelt and Babe Ruth.
"Our students need to know the history of Riverhead, the rich varied history Riverhead has and that the ground that they are on housed people from all over New York,” said Riverhead Central School District Superintendent Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore.
A historic marker was placed at the site, and the school says the goal is to host a similar festival every year.
