New Jersey residents who do not live near the shore have been finding it pretty tough to deal with the heat.
Without a beach or swimming pool in sight, hanging out in the shade is the name of the game in Hoboken.
Parks in the city were filled with people trying to stay cool over the weekend.
Jennifer Romero drove an hour from Plainsboro to Hoboken.
"We came here for the water park, actually," Romero said.
Mike Montoya says he and his two kids spent the hottest part of the day inside in the air conditioning, only to wander out later in the afternoon.
"We've been inside the house for months, and we had to get them out and stretch their legs out a little bit," Montoya says. He added that he makes sure his kids stay hydrated .
"Just always have their thermoses and Gatorades. They are usually pretty good at demanding water or Gatorade or something to drink," Montoya says.
Parents Julie and Nate Katz said they do what they can to keep their 8-month-old baby cool.
"The stroller fans are an addition with the warm weather, but we still try to come out twice a day, even in the heat," Julie Katz said.
The heat also proved to be a problem in Irvington as dozens of firefighters worked for hours in 50-plus pounds of equipments to put out a fire.
Six of those firefighters were transported to the hospital for heat-related issues.
News 12 New Jersey put in several requests, but still has no word on their conditions.
