Residents held a torch vigil Thursday night along the same shores where Superstorm Sandy made landfall three years ago.
Dozens gathered at Ortley Beach to light tiki torches along the boardwalk.
The area is still feeling the effects of Sandy today. Just across from where the vigil took place, a construction project is ongoing.
Pat Defalco said he went to see the torches. He brought a framed note from his grandchildren honoring their perseverance to rebuild their home.
"It's a tough grind, but when the going gets tough, the tough get going," Defalco said.
