North Bergen residents are being pit against city leaders over plans to build a strip mail on the Palisade Cliffs.
Opponents of the plan think construction will make the cliff unstable, risking flooding and landslides. A city spokesman disputes the claim and says the project is safe.
?No blasting, no building on any steep slopes of the Palisades ? this project involves removing lose materials,? says North Bergen spokesman Paul Swibinski.
Plans call for the construction of three buildings and approximately 100 parking spaces. North Bergen officials believe the strip mall will bring an influx of $200,000 in property taxes to city coffers. Residents against the idea say its not worth the cost to the environment, and point to the development of Churchill Estates as a precedent.
