(05/23/06) TRENTON ? Representatives of the chemical industry in New Jersey are blasting a report that contains specific details about various chemical plants in the state.
The report was released by the New Jersey Work Environment Council (WEC), a lobbying group for worker unions in the chemical industry. The document outlines plant locations and chemicals processed inside many facilities. In addition, the report reveals population information about various surrounding communities.
Critics of the report say the details give terrorists a virtual ?how-to? for an attack on the Garden State. However, WEC representatives say New Jersey residents have a right to know what?s in their back yards. The WEC wants Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) to mandate strict safety rules for New Jersey?s chemical plants. Right now, those guidelines are voluntary.
