New Jersey Transit may soon propose a rate increase of nine percent, according to a Wall Street Journal report out Wednesday.
A source familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal that the agency may announce the increase and service adjustments as soon as this week.
Any proposed increase would be subject to public hearings and a vote from the agency's board.
The reported move comes as New Jersey Transit faces an $80 million budget gap.
