(AP) - A federal report says the Army may not beable to fully replace Fort Monmouth's 5,000 civilian employees atits new location in Maryland for about 16 years. Fort Monmouth is set to close by 2011 as part of a nationwidebase-closing plan. Nearly all its workers are civilians, and notall have agreed to relocate to Maryland, where work has started onFort Monmouth's new home at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. A report issued Wednesday by the General Accountability Officesays the work force will be about 2,200 people short when itshigh-tech operations begin in Maryland and won't be at full staffuntil 2016. The GAO says the work force might not be fully trained until2024.
