Rep. Gottheimer rides NJ Transit, asks commuters to share stories
A congressman from northern New Jersey rode the rails Monday for a firsthand look at New Jersey Transit’s issues.
U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer for New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District hopped on board an NJ Transit train in Bergen County to speak with commuters form his district about their experiences.
Gottheimer recently introduced the Partnership to Build America Act. It encourages companies to bring home the money they have overseas and use those funds to repair roads and bridges.
“We need to make sure that we invest long term. You can't have a strong economy in the state of the New Jersey, or frankly in the whole area, if the rails don’t work. You can't have people waiting hours when they want to get home and see their kids. Stuck outside waiting for a tunnel that is stuck and jammed up,” he said.
The congressman also recently launched an online commuter story bank and will use what he learns to better advocate for needed infrastructure improvements.
