State officials are urging people to stay out of the ocean as Hurricane Erin approaches New Jersey.
Gov. Phil Murphy says he’ll be speaking with mayors along the Jersey Shore this afternoon, asking them to put up red flags at beaches.
Rip currents have already claimed two lives, and surf conditions are expected to worsen, especially Thursday into Friday during high tide.
Murphy says he’s concerned about rip currents, coastal flooding, and inland flooding of tidal rivers.
Some towns, including Jenkinson's Boardwalk, Island Beach State Park, Beach Haven, Atlantic City, Wildwood, and Seaside Heights, have already banned swimming due to dangerous currents.
