Local leaders and racial justice groups rallied outside of City Hall on Wednesday to demand that two officers involved in the death of Kawaski Trawick be held accountable.

This Sunday will mark the five-year anniversary of Trawick’s death. It has been nearly a year since the discipline trial against officers Herbert Davis and Brendan Thompson began.

Body camera footage released by the district attorney’s office shows when Thompson and Davis entered Trawick’s home in 2019. Trawick is seen in the video repeatedly asking why the officers were there, and video shows when officers asked him to drop a knife in his hand before using a Taser on him and then fatally shooting him.

"Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Caban need to stop obstructing justice, stop the delay, stop the traffic, stop the lives of New Yorkers deserve better,” said Loyda Colon, executive director of the Justice Committee. “And New Yorkers who call for help deserve help, not armed cops who killed them in 112 seconds."

The NYPD responded stating the disciplinary process remains ongoing.
