The results are in for Tuesday's elections.
Democrats have taken three seats from the Republicans in the State Assembly, giving them their biggest majority in the assembly since 1979. They now control 51 of the 80 seats.
There is also a number of important referendum votes around New Jersey.
The most significant Democratic win was in the 11th District in Monmouth County, where challengers JoAnn Downey and Eric Houghtaling narrowly took out Republican incumbents Mary Pat Angelini and Caroline Casagrande. The district has had a Republican stronghold in the Assembly since 1991.
One of the most closely contended issues was whether to re-build Belmar's Taylor Pavilion. Voters narrowly passed that $4 million plan.
In Little Silver, voters decided to allow restaurants to get liquor licenses; restaurants are currently bring your own booze. The borough hadn't voted on the issue since 1981, when it was shot down.
In Wayne and Marlboro, voters turned down referendums that would have provided full day kindergarten. Wayne is the only municipality in Passaic County that offers only half-days. The $47 million Marlboro school referendum would have also funded new classroom space and a new cafeteria.
Finally in Jersey City, voters decided to move municipal elections from May to November to save money.
