Queen of Peace High School to close June 30 despite efforts to raise funds
Another New Jersey Catholic high school has announced plans to close at the end of the school year due to financial hardships.
North Arlington’s Queen of Peace High School will close June 30, despite efforts to raise money and increase enrollment during this past school year, according to the Newark Archdiocese.
The school was in danger of closing last year, but was able to raise over $1 million to stay open for the 2016-2017 year.
“We truly appreciate all of the generosity of the alumni and other supporters of Queen of Peace,” school head Rev. Michael Donovan said in a statement. “But given that the school was facing a number of years of continuing deficits and challenges to gaining enrollment, we could not expect that alumni would provide the same robust support every year.”
School officials say that they will assist students with finding other Catholic schools in the archdiocese for the next school year. Facility members will also be placed on a list for available positions at other schools.
The school faces a shortfall of more than $1.2 million.
