A protestor from Arizona is facing federal charges after authorities say she punched a Homeland Security agent during a protest in Newark.
Investigators say the incident happened Friday outside Delaney Hall, a private ICE detention facility.
Officials released photos from the scene showing the alleged assault near the entrance to the building.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the 31-year-old Mariano Perez refused to move while at the protest.
Authorities say an agent attempted to physically move Perez, and that’s when Perezallegedly struck the officer in the face.
Perez now faces federal charges that could carry a penalty of up to eight years in prison.
