Dozens of protestors showed up at Bellissimo Pizzeria in Port Washington Sunday night after they say they saw on social media that "An Evening for Gaza" event was being held at the location.
People started showing up to protest around 8 p.m. Chants of "no place for hate" and "bring them home" could be heard during the protest.
News 12 is told the dinner inside ended around 9 p.m. and that police escorted people out of the restaurant to their cars.
Protestors say they're opposed to "Palestine Action Long Island,” the group that organized the dinner.
“They’re raising money for people in Gaza. And that by itself would be OK. But frankly, this organization has been involved in anti-Zionist, anti-Israel activity for years,” said Dave Kerpen, of Port Washington.
People who helped organize the event inside Bellissimo tell News 12 they were holding a charity dinner to raise money for a soup kitchen in Gaza.
The protest ended around 9:30 p.m.
