Prosecutors: Perth Amboy man arrested, charged with murder in wife’s stabbing death

Officers at the scene say Wellinton Leonardo and his wife, Rosana Rodriguez, were found lying on their kitchen floor.

A Perth Amboy man was arrested, accused in the fatal stabbing of his wife while children were inside the home.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office says police received reports of a stabbing at a residence on Bertrand Avenue.
Officers at the scene say Wellinton Leonardo and his wife, Rosana Rodriguez, were found lying on their kitchen floor.
According to prosecutors, “Rodriguez, 40, of Perth Amboy, had appeared to have been stabbed. Officers rendered aid and Rodriguez was transported to Hackensack Meridian Hospital Raritan Bay Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.”
Leonardo was brought to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for further treatment. He was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and endangering the welfare of a child as the stabbing took place in the presence of children, police said.
