Prosecutor: Woman assaulted by Newark man in East Orange dies

A 27-year-old Newark man accused of attacking a woman and injuring two children inside an East Orange apartment has been charged with homicide, authorities say.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says that Jihad Hagler attacked the victims on the 100 block of Park Avenue on July 4.
Authorities say the 31-year-old woman and one of the children suffered life-threatening injuries. The woman and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Another child was also injured, according to police.
Newark police arrested Hagler on the evening of July 4 for an unrelated incident. He is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility.
