The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has announced additional corruption charges against Ocean Gate Mayor Paul Kennedy.
Kennedy has been charged with three counts of official misconduct, along with three counts of theft. The charges are in addition to those served upon Kennedy in March for official misconduct and theft in relation to his capacity as mayor, a position he continues to serve.
According to investigators, Kennedy, 66, pocketed cash from scrap metal sales at the Borough Recycling Center, and then failed to turn over the proceeds to the borough.
He's also accused of using donation money from his reelection campaign for his personal benefit.
It was also discovered Kennedy leveraged his position with the Ocean County Buildings and Grounds Department by requiring certain employees within the department to perform construction work at his home, while those employees were working during business hours for the county.
Kennedy was processed and released on a summons pending a future court date.
