Authorities say a Princeton University student from Ohio who went missing near campus last week has been found dead.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office says 20-year-old Misrach Ewunetie was found by an employee around 1 p.m. behind tennis courts on the campus facilities grounds. Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said there were no obvious signs of “injury,” but an official cause of death will be determined after a medical examiner’s review.
Ewunetie was last seen Friday around 3 a.m. outside Scully Hall, the dormitory where she lived.
Her disappearance launched an extensive search by air and watercraft. A large law enforcement presence remained on campus and in nearby areas on Thursday.
University officials said in a statement, “Misrach’s death is an unthinkable tragedy. Our hearts go out to her family, her friends and the many others who knew and loved her.”
Even Gov. Phil Murphy offered his condolences, posting on Twitter in part, "Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and fellow students who knew and loved her."
A memorial service honoring Ewunetie is being planned. Details were not immediately made available.
The university says that grief counselors are being provided for any student or staff who needs them.
