Authorities have released new information about a deadly shooting in Phillipsburg that left a police officer injured.
The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office says that another police officer’s gun malfunctioned just before the shooting suspect died by suicide on Saturday afternoon.
The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Alkabir Boone.
Authorities say that Boone shot a woman and then confronted police officers in the area of 10 Hanover St.
Officials say that Officer Steven Fielding tried to fire back after Lt. Douglas Baylor was shot in the leg, but his gun malfunctioned.
The woman and Lt. Baylor were taken to the hospital. Baylor was released on Sunday. The woman remains hospitalized in stable condition.
