Bergen County Prosecutor Robert Mollinelli says he believes more than one person may be behind a suspicious fire that broke out at a Rutherford synagogue and attached home.
Mollinelli says he's pulling out all the stops in bringing what he calls a homicidal arsonist to justice. The prosecutor's office says a rabbi at Congregation Beth El suffered minor injuries after an explosive device was thrown through his bedroom window. Several other Molotov cocktails were also found scattered outside the home. Officials say the rabbi's wife, five children and a grandparent were also in the home, but were unharmed.
The prosecutor's office says it is investigating the incident as an arson, attempted murder and a bias crime.
The fire comes one day before law enforcement and representatives from more than 80 synagogues and Jewish day schools are expected to discuss three separate incidents targeting Jewish temples in Bergen County.
