Prosecutor: Man charged with murder, attempted murder in Toms River stabbing

The Ocean County Prosecutors Office says police responded to a home on Adams Avenue after receiving a report about an altercation on May 9.

A Jackson Township man accused of a stabbing in Toms River is facing numerous charges, including murder and attempted murder.
The Ocean County Prosecutors Office says police responded to a home on Adams Avenue after receiving a report about an altercation on May 9.
Upon arrival, they found 34-year-old Raniek Mendez with a stab wound to his chest. He was later pronounced dead.
Police say 30-year-old Roderick Seward was also stabbed at the residence.
He was hospitalized and treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities say they identified and pursued a vehicle that fled the scene of the crime.
Steven McNeil, 32, was arrested after initially refusing commands to pull over.
Other charges against him include possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, being a certain person not to possess a weapon, and eluding.
Police say he is being held without bail.
