No criminal charges will be filed regarding an incident at Edison’s Indian Day parade last year that some alleged was biased.
A bulldozer float adorned with signs was critical of India’s ruling party. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office says that it did not rise to the level of a bias crime.
People who saw the float last August said that it was offensive and that it targeted the Muslim religion.
“As a result of its investigation, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has concluded that the incident was properly reported and classified as a bias incident. The Prosecutor’s Office has further determined that sufficient probable cause to charge a violation of the law…Bias Intimidation, does not exist,” the office wrote in a statement.
The prosecutor’s office reiterated that it opposes hate in all forms and will continue to investigate complaints of bias.
