An 84-year-old woman has been found dead following a fire in Jersey City, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities say that the Jersey City Fire Department responded to 270 Clerk St. just after 10:45 a.m. Thursday. They say that the firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions on the second floor of the building.
Firefighters found the woman unconscious in her bedroom. She was pronounced dead around 11:45 a.m. Her name was not released. Her cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy.
Officials say that the fire was under control a little after 11:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
