Michael O'Connell, a well-known New Jersey lawyer, was fatally struck by a pickup truck while crossing a street in Nashville.

The accident occurred Saturday around 1 a.m. at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Broadway.

According to police, O'Connell, 58, was walking in a crosswalk when Joey Nixon, 36, hit him with his vehicle.

Nixon initially fled the scene but returned. O'Connell died at the scene.

The case will be reviewed by the district attorney's office.
