(09/19/06) PRINCETON ? Hopeful high school students who have their heart set on Princeton University will one day have submit their applications a little later.
The school has announced it is scrapping its early admission program. A spokesperson for the university says early admissions may put students from a low-income background or those seeking financial aid at a disadvantage. According to the dean of admissions, the early application process resulted in a drop in applications by students from racially diverse backgrounds. Another Ivy League school, Harvard University, has also recently dropped its early admission program.
Opinions among students about the move have been split. Some who applied early say it allowed them to finalize their college plans much sooner. Others say removing the early admissions process will take away some of the stress from applying. The change won?t affect students applying for the next academic year. However, freshman applying for the fall of 2008 will not be able to apply early.
