Those looking to buy a Christmas tree in New Jersey this year may have to shell out a few extra bucks.
As many as 70,000 trees are expected to be sold this holiday season, and prices are up due to the recession from a decade ago.
Farmers across the country cut back on planting due to the economy and since it takes about eight years to grow a 6-foot tree, the reduced supply is hitting now.
Despite the higher prices, people still want their annual tradition.
"There's nothing like the smell of a real Christmas tree to put everybody in the Christmas spirit," says Larry Thau, of Reddington. "It's a great transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas."
Hurricane Florence caused damage to tree farms in the southeastern United States this year. That storm also affected supply.
