For the second time in a matter of weeks, a CVS pharmacy has made a mistake with prescriptions.
This latest incident happened in Scotch Plains. CVS says blood pressure pills were accidentally dispensed with cholesterol medications. The pharmacy says the incident is under investigation, but believes it was an isolated restocking incident. The pharmacy says it also contacted every customer who might be affected as soon as it realized the mistake.
The viewer who alerted News 12 New Jersey to this mix-up says that 15 people were affected, but CVS has been unable to confirm that number.
News 12 New Jersey contributing medical correspondent Dr. Derrick DeSilva says there shouldn't be any long term effects in the Scotch Plains mix-up. DeSilva says the worst case scenario is that the blood pressure medication could cause a temporary drop in blood pressure and a patient could pass out.
The previous incident occurred in Chatham. In that incident, CVS says its own investigation led them to believe that 13 prescriptions for fluoride pills were dispensed with some Tamoxifen pills due to a single restocking issue at the pharmacy.
Prescriptions are divided by machines, but the machines are stocked by pharmacists.
