A pregnant woman and a man were arrested in Bridgeport following a brief police chase that ended in a crash and a drug bust, police say.

Police arrested Lashalia Baxter, 21, and Victor Jovani Capozziello, 26, of Bridgeport.

The incident happened Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. when an officer attempted to pull a vehicle over on Maple Street, but the driver took off onto Route 8, 25 connector.

Police say the car was later spotted in another area of Bridgeport where officers once again attempted to pull the driver over.

However, they say the driver lost control of their car and the vehicle crashed on Kossuth Street.

Police say Baxter, who is pregnant, was brought to the hospital for evaluation and later arrested.

The driver of the car, Capozziello, was also arrested and charged.

Police say after searching the car they found large quantities of narcotics along with money and other materials know for drug packaging and distribution.

Both are being held on $100,000 bond.
