Powerful thunderstorms caused major damage around New Jersey Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The storms contained large amounts of rain, strong winds and large hailstones. Winds were up to 60 mph in some areas. There was also lots of thunder and lightning.
Trees were uprooted all over the state, along with utility poles. More than 90,000 people were left without power at the height of the storm.
New Jersey’s utility companies had crews around the state making repairs to the power grid to get the power restored. It was unclear how long the power would remain out for some New Jersey residents, but it comes as temperatures around the state continue to rise. Temperatures in the 90s are expected for Wednesday.
The storm also impacted transportation around the state.
