Thousands of New Jersey residents were without power on Wednesday as powerful thunderstorms doused the state.
Tens of thousands of customers were left in the dark at the height of the storm. A lightning strike at a major transmission line in Point Pleasant Beach is responsible for some of the outages.
Power along Arnold Avenue came back just before 10 p.m. Police officers had been directing traffic at the intersections along the avenue since 7:30 p.m. Businesses were forced to close and homeowners were left in the dark.
The wind in the areas was not very strong during the storm, but there was lots of rain and thunder and lightning.
Other sections of the state also experienced heavy rain. There was quite a bit along Route 130 in the area of East Windsor and Hamilton. But in those areas, the rainfall didn't last long and there wasn’t any flooding.
Temperatures around the state dropped from the low-90s into the mid-70s following the storm.
