A potentially threatening video posted on Instagram prompted school and law enforcement officials to close all Nutley schools Friday.
The video reportedly showed images of people firing guns. Police now say that there was no direct threat to any school but after Wednesday’s mass shooting at a high school in Florida, they weren’t taking any chances.
“I’m a bit concerned because it’s like two days after the Florida shooting…so I’m concerned,” says Nutley High School student Bernadine Guimary.
Other students told News 12 New Jersey that they were a bit on edge after what happened in Florida.
Authorities have identified the person who made the post and say that the person is actively cooperating with the investigation.
Nutley Schools Superintendent Julie Glazer released a statement defending the closure, saying, “As both the superintendent of the Nutley Public Schools and as a parent, and because of the nature of the world in which we live, there was no other decision to be made."
Nutley schools will remain closed next week due to a scheduled winter break.
Somerset County officials also arrested a 14-year-old student Friday for allegedly making threats on social media against Franklin Township High School.
