Garden State residents may only see mail deliveries five days a week due to the current financial crisis. The postmaster general told Congress that the United States Postal Service may be forced to cut one day of delivery due to its deficits. Last year, the Postal Service had a $2.8 billion deficit. Postmaster General John E. Potter said the deficit for 2009 could be $6 billion or more.Delivering mail six days a week is currently required by federal law. For the change to go into effect, an act of Congress would be required. If the change did take place, it is possible Tuesday would be the day without mail service. Previous studies by the post office show Tuesday as a day when there is light mail flow.
