The staff at the Boys & Girls Club of Pequannock want parents to know not to drop their children off at the club in the evenings to attend any parties.
A post on the club’s
Facebook page states that on July 21 more than 100 teens held an impromptu party at the location after the club was already closed. Those teens apparently left broken glass, bottles, vapes and other trash on the property, including on a large grass field.
The partygoers also reportedly damaged the scoreboard and ripped through the emergency hatches on some of the buses on the property.
The staff had to clean up the following day. They said some of the chaos was recorded on surveillance video, which has been turned over to the police.
The partygoers may have found out about the event through fliers circulating on social media. This is the latest of pop-up parties that have gotten out of hand in New Jersey this summer.
“I see they have these pop-up parties going on and it's unacceptable. I know some parents don't even realize what's going on. Figure they're dropping off children for a party and don't realize what's happening,” says grandmother Regina Mongelli.
No one from the club was available to be interviewed.
News 12 New Jersey is told that some of the teens who attended the party have come forward and apologized.
