The construction of a new dog park in a Passaic County town prompted the changing of a law.
A dog park recently opened inside Hershfield Park in Pompton Lakes, but it was then noticed that a local ordinance prohibited the dogs from being inside parks.
After it was brought to the attention of the town council and mayor, officials immediately took action to update the codes.
Mayor Mike Serra says that the law was probably on the books for quite some time. The new law will only prohibit dogs without a leash from being inside the park.
The "No Dogs Allowed" signs will also be taken down and replaced with new ones.
