The mayors of Jersey City and Newark are banding together for stricter gun regulations in New Jersey.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy are pushing a bill that limits the number of handguns that can be sold each month to any single customer. State Sen. Sandra Cunningham (D) is sponsoring the legislation.

"Twenty eight percent of guns used in cities in New Jersey come from New Jersey gun dealers," says Booker. "People go in with straw purchases and buy 10, 20, 30 guns."

The politicians say those extra guns are then resold on the streets.

Lawmakers hope the bill would limit the number of guns in circulation. The bill would limit customers to one hand gun purchase per month.
