Police say a 2-year-old found a loaded handgun on a playground in Phillipsburg, causing terrifying moments for a father.
The child found the handgun Sunday afternoon at a park at the intersection of Bates and Marshall streets. The father got the gun away and called for help.
Neighbors say they are thankful the toddler didn't pull the trigger.
"This has been our home for 50 years,” says Fran Ludwig. “Our children played here, our grandchildren. It's always been home and all the people here have always been nice. Things are changing but, it’s just so sad. I'm just so happy that nobody got hurt."
Police are hoping any security camera video from homes in the area will help them track down the person responsible.
