An 18-year-old Wayne man is facing several charges following a domestic violence incident.
Wayne police say that officers were called to a home on Benwell Avenue around 1:18 p.m. for reports that a family member was possibly being held hostage inside the home by 18-year-old Nicholas Perota. The caller also said that there were guns inside the home.
Authorities say that when police arrived they found the family member outside with visible injuries from the altercation. It was believed that Perota was locked inside his bedroom with a female acquaintance.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the SWAT team, responded to the home and tried to get Perota to come out. Animal Control was also called in because multiple pit bulls were inside the home.
Police that that eventually the SWAT team went into the house and found that Perota has already left, along with his acquaintance, before police arrived. Stolen property was found inside Perota’s bedroom, according to officials.
Perota was eventually tracked down to a home on Fulton Street in Paterson where he was arrested. Police say that the woman was unharmed and had willingly gone with Perota.
Perota was charged with multiple domestic violence offenses and possession of stolen property.
