An 18-year-old from Jersey City is wanted in the murder of a fellow teenager earlier this month at a back-to-school event.
Investigators say Daequan Jackson is wanted for the murder of Leander Williams on Aug. 9 at the Holy Ghost Tabernacle Church Hall. They say the incident was a targeted killing.
The victim's mother, Hessi Williams, says the two teens had been fighting since elementary school. She also says Jackson stabbed her daughter Sarah in the back during a 2014 fight.
"This is an ongoing beef between them. What this beef is about, I cannot tell you," says Williams. "I asked my son on different occasions, he didn't have an answer for me. He says 'different hoods, mommy.'"
Police say they found Williams shot inside the church hall with a gun in his possession.
His mother says he had the gun for protection.
"It's either be killed or kill for these young black men walking the streets of Jersey City," says Williams.
Two young girls were also wounded by gunfire in the church hall shooting. The Hudson County prosecutor says Jackson is being charged with two counts of aggressive assault.
Police ask anyone with information on Jackson's whereabouts to contact them. They also warn that he is likely armed and dangerous.
