A large police standoff in Elizabeth has come to an end with a man barricaded inside his apartment surrendering to the police.
The incident began around 1:30 p.m. in a first-floor apartment unit in a building on Third Street in the middle of the city.
Officials have not provided many details about the incident, but Mayor Chris Bollwage tells News 12 that the man had barricaded himself with a refrigerator door.
News 12 is told that the man needs professional help from a mental health standpoint.
Police were able to get the man out of the apartment and put him in an ambulance.
No injuries were reported.
