Law enforcement officers in Morris County are seeking the public’s help locating a man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.
Authorities say that on Aug. 13, Morristown police officers responded to Morristown Medical Center for reports of a child in cardiac arrest. They say that the child showed numerous signs of physical injuries. The child died and the death was ruled a homicide.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Edwin Urbina physically assaulted the child at the Oyo Hotel in East Hanover. The child’s mother, Krystal Straw, was not present at the time of the assault, according to the authorities.
Prosecutors allege that Straw brought Urbina to another location before taking her son to the hospital. It is also alleged that Urbina told Straw to delete content from her phone and deny his involvement in the incident.
Straw is now facing charges related to the incident.
Urbina was charged with first-degree murder and remains on the loose. Anyone who may know his whereabouts is asked to call the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200, the East Hanover Police Department at 973-887-0432, or Morris County Crime Stoppers at 973-267-2255.
