Police in Asbury Park have released body camera video of the moments leading to the arrest of a police brutality protest organizer.
The video shows protest organizer Randy Thompson arguing with police before he is placed in handcuffs. Police say that a group of about 30 people was blocking a land on Fourth Avenue Wednesday night.
The group was marching in protest over the death of Hasani Best, who was killed in August during a standoff with police. When protesters did not comply with officers’ commands, Thompson was arrested.
Police say that Thompson resisted arrest and that is when he was pushed onto the hood of a police car.
The Asbury Park police chief says that the department supports peaceful protesting, but not when it violates the law. He says that organizers of future protests should coordinate with the police department.
