Quick action by police officers and a firefighter saved the life of a priest in Bayonne who went into cardiac arrest.

The priest was driving on Avenue E when he lost control of his vehicle, striking several parked cars.

An on-duty firefighter driving saw the crash, stopped and performed CPR on the priest.

Two police officers then used a defibrillator before wheeling the man into Care Point Bayonne Medical Center across the street.

“These guys worked as a team,” says Chief Robert Geisler with the Bayonne Police Department. “Quick action let their training kick in, and because of that, the gentleman's life was saved yesterday. I'm proud of all three of these guys as well as the EMTs and the medical staff who worked on the gentleman in the hospital behind me.”

According to officials, the priest is recovering at the hospital.

He's expected to be OK.
