Pompton Lakes officials say a house fire broke out just after 10 a.m. Monday at a single-family home on Ridgewood Avenue.
Mayor Michael Serra says a responding police officer was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Much of the inside of the home is burned, and there is a hole in the roof.
No cause has been released.
