An Asbury Park police officer is facing a demotion for leaving the scene of an active shooting.
Captain Marshawn Love faces several charges, including neglect of duty.
The charges stem from a June 2015 incident in which former Neptune Township police Sgt. Philip Seidle shot his ex-wife in front of their daughter.
Love, a 21-year veteran, insists he didn't violate departmental policy by leaving the scene to drive Seidle's daughter to police headquarters.
Instead of taking command at the scene, the Asbury Park police chief argues that Love left an inexperienced police officer and two special officers at the shooting site.
