Police say a female off-duty NYPD officer fatally shot a woman and injured another woman in Brooklyn Wednesday, and the motive is believed to be domestic in nature.
NYPD officials say 911 callers reported a shooting around 5 p.m. in Brooklyn's Bensonhurst section, near 19th Avenue and 79th Street.
Responding officers encountered a woman who said she had shot someone. Officers gained entry into the home, where they found two victims with gunshot wounds.
A 24-year-old was found in a living room area with gunshot wounds to the chest, and a 23-year-old woman who had been shot in the torso was found in a bedroom.
The 24-year-old woman was pronounced dead.
The 23-year-old woman was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and is expected to survive.
Police say the 31-year-old suspect is a 5-and-a-half-year veteran of the NYPD. She is believed to have been in a relationship with the 23-year-old who survived the shooting.
The officer was taken into custody and was hospitalized.
The identities of those involved have not been released at this time.
Police said it was possible but not confirmed that the officer's service weapon could have been used in the shooting.
